Tuberculosis remains a major public health problem in Colombia. To examine the functional capacity of patients with tuberculosis in two health centers of the National Institute of Health. A qualitative cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out in two health centers. All patients with suspected pulmonary tuberculosis who attended health center services were recruited for the study. The Functional Status was assessed using the WHO and the capacity to perform normal activities was assessed by the Katz ADL. Data were collected using a face-to-face interview using a questionnaire. A total of 41 patients with tuberculosis were recruited. The median age was 37 years and 57.3% were female. The mean Functional Status and capacity to perform normal activities were 7.3/10 and 8.5/10, respectively. Impairments were mainly related to hearing (30%), walking (30%), seeing (28%), and cognition (20%). The need to see a doctor for tuberculosis was associated with increased age (p=0.0036) and with decreased functional capacity (p=0.0348). No significant association was found between functional capacity and the presence of pulmonary cavitation (p=0.2418), or with the capacity to perform normal activities (p=0.9973). Tuberculosis patients had functional impairments, particularly hearing and walking. We found a significant association between the capacity to perform normal activities and the need to see a doctor for tuberculosis.Patients' expectations of having a positive HIV test.
